Mariposas Bellas Campaign

My name is Adrianna A. Rodriguez and I am a Kean University Speech Pathology major. The Lupus Foundation of America New Jersey Chapter (LFANJ) has decided to back me in launching my Mariposas Bellas Campaign. Mariposas Bellas means beautiful butterfly in Spanish. People with lupus often have the signature malar rash during flare ups which can resemble the shape of a butterfly. The mission of the Mariposas Bellas Campaign is to create a curtain of origami butterflies to represent the annual number of newly diagnosed cases of lupus and to raise proceeds.

The number of newly diagnosed cases each year in the US is 16,000. Since this is massive number of butterflies, I will be hosting various events throughout New Jersey where I will be acceptingvolunteers to help fold the butterflies and raise donations which will go to the Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter, Inc. Donators will have the opportunity to decorate a butterfly that will go on the curtain. I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2011,a month shy of my 16th birthday. I am an avid spokesperson for the foundation and I make an effort to help newly diagnosed teens that are struggling with the steps of healing and acceptance.
