Lupus Awareness Month is a time of community, unity and activism as people with lupus and their loved ones show their strength and power in the fight to end lupus. Throughout the month, the lupus community gathers to raise awareness and make lupus visible by wearing purple, sharing their stories and lupus facts on social media, fundraising, reaching out to their elected officials, and lighting up monuments and buildings purple.

May 10th is recognized as World Lupus Day, when the global lupus community takes action in the mission to end lupus through collaborative efforts to shine a light on the mysterious and cruel disease.

Purple has become synonymous with lupus - when people see purple, they think of lupus. One of the traditions on World Lupus Day is to light up prominent buildings purple to draw public attention to lupus and the strength of lupus warriors. Each year, photos from all over the world pour in as lupus warriors light up their cities purple to commemorate Lupus Awareness Month.
