Biogen Announces Positive Phase 2 LILAC Results for New Investigational Drug, BIIB059, for Lupus
Biogen Inc. announced today that its Phase 2 LILAC study captured positive top-line results for investigational drug, BIIB059. The drug demonstrated statistically significant reduction of disease activity in people with cutaneous lupus (CLE) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) compared to those who received placebo.
The drug is a monoclonal antibody that blocks BDCA2 cells which inhibit the production of major inflammatory mediators in lupus. The Phase 2 LILAC study was a two-part, randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study that enrolled 264 individuals. The safety and tolerability profile of BIIB059 supports its continued development. The drug continues to be researched in SLE and CLE.
