Update on Foundation Events Amid Coronavirus Concerns
Updated March 22, 2020 with language about suspension of Household Goods donation program.
You may be wondering what’s next for Lupus Foundation of America events over the next several weeks. The situation around the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is changing rapidly. Your health and well- being is our top priority and we have created resources that we will continue to update at lupus.org/coronavirus. We also encourage you to check with your local health department about the status of the illness in your community and communicate directly with your doctor about addressing your health needs.
For other in-person events scheduled between now and May 10, 2020 -- like the Walk to End Lupus Now® events, education programs, and support groups -- we are following current CDC recommendations and working to reschedule or identify virtual solutions for these events. If you are registered for an event, we will communicate any changes with you directly, and information will be on our website as soon as possible.
In addition, all household goods pick ups are currently suspended until further notice, This includes Washington, D.C., Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York and Virginia. Please note the Wheaton Unique store in Wheaton, MD is also closed until further notice.
You might be asking, what can I do now? There are plenty of things you can do virtually to stay connected and continue fundraising to help end lupus.
- Connect with lupus warriors. We know living with lupus can be isolating at times, and with the spread of the coronavirus, it can be even more difficult. Connect with lupus warriors from around the world and in your local area on LupusConnect.
- Keep fundraising! Lupus research and support services still need your help. Start a fundraiser on Facebook, share your story and encourage your friends and family to donate, or if you are registered for a Walk to End Lupus Now event, keep your fundraising going!
- Spread awareness and help educate others about lupus and how they can join our fight.
- Sign up for our education series sent directly to your email, like Take Charge that includes tips to help you manage lupus and The Expert Series, our monthly education podcast.
You and your families are in our thoughts during this time and always. We will continue to monitor this evolving situation and keep you updated.
