Event Details
The 1st Annual Walk to End Lupus Now, Pittsburgh is part of the Lupus Foundation of America’s signature walk program. Hosted by the Pennsylvania Delaware Valley Region of the Lupus Foundation of America, this walk aims to generate proceeds to directly support individuals affected by lupus in the region through vital programs focused on research, education, support, and advocacy. By participating in the Walk to End Lupus Now, communities unite in their efforts to unravel the mysteries surrounding this debilitating disease.
Lupus remains a challenging condition with no known cause or cure, affecting an estimated 1.5 million Americans and 5 million individuals worldwide, including over 70,000 lupus warriors residing in the Pennsylvania Delaware Valley Region
Together, we are committed to taking strides towards ending lupus now!
At the age of 16, during my senior year in high school, I was diagnosed with lupus. I was constantly in and out of the hospital, and my family and I didn’t think I would make it to my prom or graduation. My God and my primary care physician made sure I was at both.
The doctors didn’t think it would be possible for me to have kids because my immune system was always in a rage. In September 2004, I gave birth to twin girls. They were premature and had to stay in the hospital for almost 2 weeks.
I refuse to give up and let this disease take control of me. I have lupus, lupus doesn’t have ME!!!!
