Maria A. - Diagnosed at age 15

I was 15 and went into kidney failure. After tests and a kidney biopsy it was determined I had a multiple connective tissue disease. What was most predominant was lupus. I had all the classic symptoms. Constant doc appointments, new medications and restrictions. I was used as a teaching tool for interns. I was teased at school for my hands turning blue and being different. I couldn't go on some field trips. It was tough as a kid. Trying to find a new way in this new life. 

I'm now 42 and having more issues with pain management and fatigue. I can no longer work and am fighting for disability.
