Priya P. - Diagnosed at age 33
For years, I struggled with a mysterious illness, unable to put a name to my suffering. It all began in my teenage years when I experienced rashes from sun exposure. Despite these early signs, it took until I was 33 years old to receive a proper diagnosis. The turning point came when a coworker noticed my Reynaud's symptoms and urged me to get tested for lupus, as her own mother had tragically passed away from the disease.
Finally, I was diagnosed with lupus, but it was just the beginning of my journey. Over the years, the disease has manifested itself in various ways, including lupus nephritis, arthritis, Avascular necrosis, bilateral hip replacement, partial shoulder replacement, Reynaud's, polymorphic light eruption, and other symptoms. Lupus has become a constant presence in my life, and it feels like an unpredictable roller coaster – one day I'm on a high, feeling well, and the next day, I'm down for the count.
Despite the challenges, I have discovered that maintaining a positive mindset has made a profound difference in my life. Through the ups and downs, I have learned to appreciate the good days and be grateful for the moments of respite. My family has been my rock, providing unwavering support and giving me hope that life still has a plan for me. They remind me that I am more than just my illness – I am a fighter, a survivor, and an inspiration to others who face similar battles.
My journey with lupus has not been an easy one, but it has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, hope, and the power of a positive mindset. Through my experiences, I have learned to cherish the small victories and find joy even in the most challenging moments. As I continue to navigate the ups and downs of this disease, I am determined to share my story with others, inspiring hope and raising awareness about the realities of living with lupus.
In sharing my story, I hope to connect with others who are on similar journeys, creating a community of support and understanding. We are not alone in our fight against lupus – together, we can raise awareness, encourage research, and ultimately, find a cure for this devastating disease.
