2025 National Kidney Month: Check in with Your Kidneys, Because Kidneys Can’t Talk
March is here, and as we observe Kidney Month, it’s crucial to raise awareness about how lupus can severely impact the kidneys.
Did you know that up to 60% of people with lupus will develop lupus-related kidney disease, known as lupus nephritis? It’s so important for everyone with lupus to understand the potential impact it can have on kidneys. And, early detection of kidney issues is vital so treatment to preserve kidney function can begin.
Kidneys are essential organs that play a major role in filtering waste from your blood, balancing fluids, and maintaining your body’s overall health. However, when kidneys are in trouble due to lupus nephritis, the symptoms are often hidden, and you may not feel any “kidney” pain. That’s why we say - kidneys can’t talk - because symptoms related to kidney issues often show up in other ways. Because of this, it’s so important to monitor your kidney health proactively. One of the best ways to stay on top of your kidney health is by using our shareable (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Bluesky and Threads) or our full checklist available on Instagram and Facebook.

This simple resource helps you understand warning signs of kidney issues like changes in urination, such as dark or foamy urine and increased frequency of urination, and monitoring blood pressure. It also includes what you should be discussing with your doctor in terms of urine and blood test monitoring.
