Thirty-One Faces of Hope: Marco Belloso

The lupus community includes people living with lupus, friends, family and supporters across Georgia. For Lupus Awareness Month, we would like to highlight some of our lupus heroes and champions.

Meet Marco Belloso

Our Lupus journey began about 19 years ago. My wife of now 29 years went in for a procedure that went totally wrong, was rushed to the hospital and after numerous tests found out she had Lupus.

Incurable disease and being close to death took us to a place where everyday became extra challenging. By the Grace of God we stand today with our story. Financially, emotionally, and physically demanding on a level that I don’t wish on anyone in this world. Still so many questions after this many years, how can we make each day count despite the challenges?

The little things in life makes this journey worth it for me as a husband and father. We still have challenges, that never goes away. Seeing my kids graduate and celebrate the small achievements and accomplishments in their life along with my wife enjoying those moments humbles me and brings me to state of thanks fullness. In general to my Lupus journey family thus far is simple. From a friend of mine to you, “Love more want less”. Enjoy the moments, through the trials keep loving with everything you got. I pray from the bottom of heart we fight together in love.

Choosing to prioritize your kidney health might be uncomfortable, but the reality is that up to 30% of people who live with lupus nephritis may experience kidney failure, which can lead to dialysis or even a kidney transplant. Luckily, there are steps you can take now that may help, such as scheduling routine tests and asking your doctor about treatment options. Talk to your doctor to learn more about routine testing and treatment.
