Make sure your medications arrive at your vacation destination safe and sound with these 10 travel tips.
10 Medication Management Travel Tips
TIP #1
Before leaving home, update the medications list on your emergency information/medical wallet alert card.
TIP #2
If you have a medication that needs refrigeration, request a room refrigerator when you make your hotel reservation.
TIP #3
Take an extra few days' worth of medication just in case your trip home is delayed.
TIP #4
Keep your medications with you since you can't be sure what the temperature will be in a baggage compartment (or car trunk).
TIP #5
Do not mail your medications to your destination, as temperatures can vary in transit, and the package could be lost or delayed.
TIP #6
TSA allows you to bring medically necessary liquids, medications and creams in your carry-on bag on domestic flights.
TIP #7
Limits may be in place for medications - including liquids - that can be carried on international flights. Before your flight, check tsa.gov for information.
TIP #8
Place original medication containers in a quart-size clear plastic baggie for going through security. (If you have more than one baggie, tell the security official.)
TIP #9
Continue to take medications at the same time of day as when you're home, or adjust to a new time zone before you leave.
TIP #10
When you arrive at your destination be sure to store medications in a temperature-controlled location.
